Log Cabin FAQs

Do I need planning permission?
Like most conventional houses and larger buildings you will need to apply for planning permission. However garden units below 4 metres ridge height and less than 30 square metre floor area will probably not require planning consent, (please check with your local planning authority).

Can Finwood do my planning and building regulations applications?
Yes, for a fee will can undertake this work on your behalf. Prices available on request.

Are wooden buildings well insulated?
Yes, very much so. The inherent properties of wood mean that wooden buildings stay warm in winter and cool in summer.
By adding insulation walls in log buildings the current building regulations relating to insulation is greatly exceeded and is far better than most conventional buildings. This in turn means you will save considerable money spent on heating and indirectly reducing pollution to the environment.

Can I have any shape or size of building?
Yes, as long as the building is structurally achievable, Finwood can design and build to any dimensions.

Do you offer full build packages?
We now only offer supply and deliver packages. If however you want a full build package or just a shell erected, we can put you in touch with companies who may be willing to do this for you.

How long should a log or timber frame building last?
With the correct maintenance a Finwood building should last indefinitely.

What is a typical lead time on a Finwood building?
Typically we would advise allowing 6 weeks from the time of ordering to the delivery of materials to you site.
